Conflictual Conversations: Art Mediation as Political Education
Abstract:
Reflecting on my own subjective experiences of working as a sobat at documenta fifteen, I discuss the conflicts and tensions I encountered there between different roles, interests, and opinions. My aim is to articulate the problems I experienced and consider how they might be solved. In doing so, I draw on theories of anti-racist education and argue for their use in art mediation. This text aims to consider what conflicts might potentially come with considering art mediation in the expanded sense of political education, and what potential dealing with conflicts might have in situations of mediation.
