Review «Untie To Tie» (2021)
Abstract:
Untie to Tie addresses discourses around colonialism, migration, and racism in schooling contexts. Starting from the observation that there is barely any active engagement with these topics in German teaching plans, they are subsequently illuminated in around 40 contributions to the volume by artists, art educators, researchers, and educational actors. The authors come from various cultural and geographic backgrounds, arguing from the standpoints of different disciplines and making use of multiple different means of expression. Each contribution offers points of connection for thinking about the subject at hand. While its emphasis on educational policy means it is aimed primarily at teachers, parents, educators, and students, the wide variety of language, content, and media used throughout also make the discourse available to a wider public.
